Adjustable Probe with Injection Nozzle
Style AP-3MI

The Welker Adjustable Probe with the injection nozzle (AP-3MI) is designed to insert the chemical injection nozzle into a low pressure pipeline (500 max psi). For pipeline pigging or for service on the nozzle, the unit can be quickly withdrawn without pipeline operation interruption. The nozzle will disperse the chemical in a more efficient manner than the typical straight tube.

The Welker AP-3MI can be used with any chemical injection system. For proper sizing of the nozzle, estimated injection rates should be provided to Welker. The AP-3MI can be inserted through a 1" full open ball valve. A number of nozzle styles are available and can be sized to meet your specific needs. Line pressure, pump pressure and your gpm needs will assure correct nozzle for the application. Specify insertion length (18" - standard).

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

To install unit, determine insertion length required.Push probe through probe plug to that point and tighten top cap of tubing union. Trim excess probe length to within 2 inches of the union desired and attach top works of unit to probe and tighten tubing connector. Loosen tubing union cap and slide probe to fully retracted position. Snug tubing union probe plug until fair amount of friction is attained from PTFE ferrule in the plug. Close the top ball valve. Mount AP-3MI to the pipeline valve (1 " full open ball or gate valve). Slowly open the pipeline valve and carefully push probe into line. Do not allow head or hands to extend above probe as it is being inserted. Depending on pipeline pressure, considerable force may be required to insert the probe into the pipeline. Use care to keep the probe straight. A 500 psi pressure on the pipeline would exert force of 30 pounds on 1/4" tubing. When the probe is in the correct position, tighten the tubing union cap (lock it on tubing) and snug union a bit more, being careful not to destroy PTFE ferrules. Connect pump outlet line to CV-1 inlet. Open the ball valve on the end of probe.

WITHDRAWAL INSTRUCTIONS

Close the top valve and disconnect the pump line from the CV-1. Get a very firm grip on the top probe valve, loosen the hex cap on top of the union completely and then loosen the union body slightly so that the probe can slide out through the PTFE ferrule.

Always be careful to have a firm grip on probe until it is inserted and tightened or fully retracted as pipeline pressure will want to push probe up when loose. Do not stand over probe during installation or removal.

The gauge will serve two purposes: 1 ) it will indicate pipeline pressure with the ball valve open; 2) By pinching the valve, you will be able to see the gauge pressure increase when pump is operating.

The most common problem people have with probes happens when they close pipeline valves on the probe. This can make for a very unnecessary problem!
